Dedicated Fan

Joe Jaszewski / The Idaho Statesman

My Broncos played two days ago (Thursday night) and they smashed their opponents (Southern Mississippi) 38-16. Dad and I were able to watch the game, but that was easier said then done.

It was an early game in Idaho so it started about 7:30ish here. We started out at a sports bar with a huge TV, but really no sound since there was loud music playing. Through out the night it got really smoky (cigarettes from people around us) but we were watching our Broncos and there was no way we were going to leave.

But, then about 9:30, karaoke started. Yes, it did. The first two people were actually pretty good, but then the third person started and wow...his talent was NOT singing. The smoke got so bad I was having a hard time breathing and so we left.

We raced home, got some blankets, chairs, and I got my inhaler and Dad and I went down to our apartment’s exercise room. It was the only other place that had a TV. So, we sat there in the freezing cold (yes, they keep it very very cold), filling our lungs with clean air and screaming for our team, the Broncos.

It was a wonderful game and we were up till about 11:30 on a school night, but it was all worth it.

*sighs*

Real Princesses

Real Princesses by Valerie Wilding

"What is a princess? It's a favorite dream of many girls to be a beautiful princess, to live in a fairy-tale palace, to wear diamond tiaras, and to dress in fabulous clothes."
Not quite. Princesses have lots of rules, requirements and expectations burdened on them. They are constantly being watched and judged by the public and they usually don't get exactly what they want. Most people think princesses are girls who don't have a care in the world, but that's not true, they have their problems and things to deal with just like you and I. But, there are also fun aspects of being a "princess." They usually have opportunities to pursue their interests, sometimes even professionally because they usually have unlimited resources. Some examples in the book include modeling, acting, professional horseback riding, bee keeping, and even the military.
This bright pink and purple non-fiction princess guide was a blast to read! I learned lots about the lifestyles of princesses all around the world. It's amazing how different African princesses are compared to British princesses. Please don't let the terms "princess" or "pink" scare you away, once you read this book you'll realize that they have to deal with a lot and aren't just frilly pink cover girls. Well, maybe one or two are...

Voices from Cinderella - part 4

Father's Peace

Hear my voice last.
The tragedy
caused by my death
has passed.

I'm proud of my girl.
She's won
a prince to love her,
a king for a father,
a queen for a mother;
a realy famly
and not least,
freedom from my wife.

I'll leave this life
and become all shadow now
I've found peace.

Bronco Update #1

Well, the Broncos have played two games so far and are 1-1. That means, they have won 1 time and lost 1 time. Their first game was so amazing! They completed crushed their opponent Weber State; 56-7. It was so fun to listen to!

Two days ago, we went to a sports bar to watch them play the Huskies. It was an interesting game! The Broncos played well, but the Huskies were just a little too much for them at this point in the season. (We will crush them next time we play...) The score was 28-10, so it wasn't horrible.

I am very excited for next week, because usually after a team loses, they come back very strong, because they have addressed and worked on their problems and are ready for another go at it. :D
The video below is a very quick segment (34 seconds) of a couple of touchdown plays against Weber State. I found one that was short, so that you didn't have any excuse for NOT watching it...:)

Voices from Cinderella- part 3

The Other Slipper

Abandoned
in the prime of my life!
Dropped!
Separated from my mate!

She-Who-Wore-Me
liked me well enough
while dancing.
Then she dropped me!

He-Who-Picked-Me-Up
cherished me at first.
Now, I, who was made for
small feet, must suffer.

Each day, a tougher trial.
Heavy, ugly, big feet
pushing down on my very sole!
Oh! I shuffle with pain!
Oh!I shudder silently!
The threat of shattering!
Oh! The strain on a shoe!

Why? I demand to know why!
When will he search for my mate?
When will we step together again?

Voices From Cinderella - part 2

The Rat's Ride

Tonight I was scurrying by the stone wall,
nose sniffing, tail switching, all wary with worry.
The night semed so strange, I wondered if a cat had sneaked to the garden in search of a meal.

I thought I heard bells.

I froze by the rosebush and listened with fear,
when a flash of bright light seared me. Then,
stretching and stretching, my muscles quite wretchedly
stretched and lenghtened, took on a
new shape!

My useful front paws grew huge and became
heavy hands without claws, dangling down by my hips.
In place of hindquarters, long legs touched the ground.
I grew a flat face. Gone was my muzzle. I had no snout!

Where were my whiskers, a-twitching, a-tremble?
This nose could sniff nothing of smells in the air.
Where was my soft fur? My sleek pelt, my pride?
My bare hide was covered with coarse cloth.
It screatched.

Where was my tail, long and slim, a-switching?
Totally gone! Just a memory of motion.
I tried to chage back--shift--
shiver into rat shape.
Shrink.
Think rodent. Sniff for ratness.

No luck;
I was stuck in that clumsy
big
body.

Then I was riding on a box with wheels.
It stopped for a long time
and now I sit, immobile, on top.
In plain view, where cats can see me!
I try to keep smelling for danger nearby.
Sniff. Sniff.
Finally, noises of running. Bells start to chime.
Sniff. Sniff.
MORE enchantments this time?

I count bells--
nine, ten,
eleven, twelve.
Silence.

Sniff.
What dangers?
Sniff-Wait!

Something unique is happening- sniff-
Oh, ratness!

Eeek, eek!
Squeeeak, squeeak squeeak!

Free! Free!
I'm me!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I posted this awhile ago, but nobody commented on it....*sniff* So, I am posting it again hoping that I can get some feedback. :D

My take on the movie. *warning: spoilers*
This movie has been much awaited this year. For some people the movie was very disappointing, for some good, and for some the best ever!

Cons:
1. I finished re-reading the book outside the theater. It was very fresh in my mind and so I noticed almost everything that was left out of the movie. See Bohae's post about this subject
here.

2. So many things were happening at once, it was hard for character development and to get attached to anything.

Pros:
1.The added cast members including (in character names): Luna Lovegood, Bellatrix Lestrange, Dolores Umbridge, and Nymphadora Tonks were so fun to watch. I had a blast!

2. At the very end of the movie, Daniel Radcliffe did an exceptional job with the death of his godfather and his temporary possession
by Voldemort.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie and am looking forward to watching it on DVD once the book is not so vivid in my head. :D

I can't wait for the 7th book to come out, though it will be the end of an amazing and unforgettble series.

Stay tuned for pictures of costumes that my sister, friend, and I wore to the movie. :D
